Two years ago, I moved to my apartment and there was this older man I would see in the hallway. He was probably in his seventies, maybe even in his eighties. He was always smiling, well-dressed and was always very polite to me.
One day that man had a stroke and he no longer could walk without the assistance of someone beside him and using a walker. I would see him in the hall walking and the smile from his face disappeared. He never looked up anymore as his head was always looking at the ground while he learned to walk again.
Two years later, that man is still walking the halls. But now he walks faster, he walks without help and he walks with his head up. He still walks with his walker, but he is steadier on his feet. He always looks me in the eyes. He smiles and says good morning. He looks happier.
That man in the hall taught me never to give up. Life is a rollercoaster ride of ups and downs, but never give up.
From watching the man in the hall every day, I have learned great life lessons.
- Never give up
- Your health is very important
- You are never too old to learn how to do something
- Be grateful for everything
If you want something in life whether it’s a new skill, vacation, a new car or even to become self-employed… just go for it! You have nothing to lose by trying with purpose. That’s what the man in the hall taught me.
I would love to hear from you. What are your great life lessons?
